About WACSI
Since 2005, WACSI has been committed to strengthening civil society across West Africa. We achieve this by enhancing the skills, knowledge, and partnerships of organisations and activists who are dedicated to making a real difference in their communities. A key aspect of WACSI’s work is engaging in work aimed at transforming international development to address power imbalances and make it more equitable. Our goal is to support civil society actors in becoming more efficient, effective, resilient, and capable of leading change on their own terms.
Transforming international development and the aid architecture requires more than just a few organisations in the global North (minority) or global South (majority) working independently. It demands a truly collaborative effort from various regions, each contributing their knowledge, expertise, insights, contextual understanding, and influence to create a more equitably balanced global development system.

WACSI’s collaboration with the Centre
As a key partner of the Centre, WACSI has shared its extensive experience in important discussions and learned from other changemakers across the region and beyond through ICSC convenings at various levels. These include, but are not limited to, the Vision Works leadership meetings, Global Civil Society convenings, and Futures thinking spaces. The ICSC has also played a crucial role in the Reimagining the INGO (RINGO) Programme hosted by WACSI, serving as a member of the Advisory Board and one of the prototype hosts. Through WACSI’s collaboration with the Centre, we have engaged in joint efforts that enable peer learning activities, facilitate the exchange of practical tools and ideas, and enrich mutually beneficial platforms like RINGO.
Being part of the Centre’s community reinforces WACSI’s commitment to collaborating with others to create lasting change. This partnership is vital for advocating locally led and community-driven development while promoting the essential role that civil society plays in shaping the future, not only in West Africa but across the African continent as a whole. It allows the Institute to connect with others who share our vision, experiment with bold ideas, and advocate for systems that genuinely support local organisations. This collaborative space fosters learning, influence, and contributions toward building a stronger, more sustainable civil society across the region.
WACSI's partnership with the ICSC presents such an opportunity. As the Akan proverb states: "the right hand washes the left while the left washes the right," we all need one another to ensure the entire international development system is effective, equitable and fit for purpose
