The same issues that have haunted mankind since the beginning of time are also encountered in the digital space: struggles for liberation, the pursuit of social justice, oppression and crime, to name but a few.

Civil society organisations often take on an important role in pursuing social justice, and this is no different in the online sphere. Digital technologies are reshaping the ways civil society pursues accountability, advances human rights, and seeks justice. From citizen reporting platforms and open-source investigations to data analysis, environmental monitoring, and AI-enabled advocacy, organisations around the world are using digital tools to expose abuses, document evidence, amplify community voices, and hold powerful actors to account.

Civil society engages in advocacy and accountability. This role is often described as that of a watchdog, frequently alongside the media, and feeds into important political campaigns.

This Digital Dialogue brings together practitioners and innovators from civil society and civic technology to explore how digital tools are transforming accountability efforts, what lessons are emerging from different regions, and what support is needed to ensure technology strengthens rather than undermines justice.

Together, the panel will examine how civil society can harness digital innovation to build more transparent, accountable, and equitable societies.
