The event will introduce work and practice of Citizen Data practitioners of the Leave No One Behind partnership, covering the perspectives of different countries in Africa and Asia. In a dialogue with statisticians and global experts, the role of Citizen Data for a more inclusive, rights-driven and participatory development will be debated. In line with this year’s HLPF agenda, a special focus will be set on the potential of Citizen Data to contribute to the advancement of SDGs 16 and 17, strengthening accountability and cross-sector collaboration in a time of multiple crises and increasing mistrust. In this context, we will also have a debate around the new Copenhagen Framework for Citizen Data, which was recently commended for implementation by the UN Statistics Commission. The event is meant to raise additional awareness and understanding on Citizen Data, its value for elevating the perspectives of people who have been marginalised, its collaborative character, and its potential for making public planning more inclusive. There will be space for discussion with the audience, hearing their perspective on how inclusive data approaches can be utilised in the coming years towards 20230, helping to ensure that the remaining years of the “SDG decade of action” will live up to its promise to leave no one behind.
