This webinar will focus on the tools and resources that activists can employ in order to take care of their own well being. Human rights defenders often find themselves in high-stress working environments, where they are required to focus on the well being of others, and not necessarily themselves. They often suffer from burn-out, post-traumatic stress, and are in need of psychosocial support. As the topic of mental health is finding its way to the forefront of day-to-day discourse, we believe it is the right time to initiate dialogue regarding the topic of well being in our sector, so activists can begin to prioritize their own mental health in order to continue performing the necessary work they do.

Martina Nicolls

Martina Nicolls is a British-Australian humanitarian, activist, and aid development worker with 32 years in the international sphere, after many years as an activist and educator in Australia.

Her consultancy work as Chief of Party (Chef de Mission), Team Leader, team member, and sole worker, includes government support, monitoring, evaluation, research, and project advice in education, health, governance, gender, rural and community development, human rights, peace building, conflict mitigation, stabilization, social cohesion, and countering violent extremism. She has worked in conflict states, emerging states, and in least developed countries, including Afghanistan, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Liberia, Kashmir, Kosovo, Mauritius, Morocco, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Uganda, and Vietnam.
