The International Civil Society Centre hosted the fifth meeting of the ICSO Heads of Policy and Advocacy on 8-9 March in Berlin. As always, the meeting offered a valuable opportunity to analyse current global developments that are influencing the work of ICSOs and to discuss how to align strategies.
In particular, the meeting focused on the analysis and exchange against the backdrop of significantly changing political conditions worldwide, including a sharp rise in political actors and policies that promote a nationalist and segregating agenda for their societies, especially focusing on the following:
- A comprehensive analysis of the current political situation
- Implications for ICSOs as key actors of international collaboration and development
- A self-critical introspection where CSOs themselves have failed and how to create a positive counter-narrative to nationalism
